Scambusters on Timeshares

The experts at scambusters.org have done a small expose revealing tips and facts concerning the vague nature of the timeshare industry. The site describes how from first sighting, the consumer is being lured by attractive presentations and free incentives (ex. free hotel rooms, weekend getaway packages, etc…) and from there the problem begins. Most timeshare companies use high-pressure sales tactics or false promises to get a consumer to attend a presentation, going so far as to tell them that they can sell their timeshare later, which turns out to be false, condemning unsuspecting travel-goers to a life-long financial commitment.

Some tips to avoid becoming a victim of timeshare resale scams; do not buy “on the spot”, always be sure to read the fine print, have the contract read by an attorney, and, of course, ask for references. The resale market is struggling tremendously due to the abundance of sellers and complete lack of buyers.
